Why Trump cannot speak with Putin

Obama managed to build on Bush's imbecilic foreign policy by adding his own special blend of capitulation and arrogance. Then the Dems fabricate collusion between Trump and Russia and here we are. There was a great opportunity to work with the Russians but Trump cannot speak with Putin without starting a media circus back home.

Trump gave us a real opportunity to reset things in Middle East, and not just some corrupt hag holding a defective red button. Syria is a road apple rife with every low grade jihadist and butcher. Putin would just as soon kill every Syrian than play nice with them. Trump basically feels the same. It's like having dog s... on the bottom of your shoe.

It's utter madness that the extremist leftwing corporate mainstream media outlets back the neocon MIC and escalation of tensions between the two world's nuclear superpowers. But your analysis is correct. Especially the part about the corrupt hag holding a defective red button.

Your indelicate post heralds a new beginning. The world respects strength, but only when it is in the hands of a leader willing to use it.
We can expect a REAL Russian reset, not a silly red button. Putin knows that USA Is the only Super power, and is not willing to risk the devastation that surely would befall his government.
He got the message, that his adventure in the Middle East is OVER! He will remain in Syria, thanks to a weak, feckless Obama reign, but no further. And He will behave, not slaughter innocents with gas and chemicals.

The WORLD is already a better place, thanks to TRUMP, and REAL communication between rivals will make it an even better world.
Hopefully all this social media CRAP, will reflect it!

Trump should not talk directly with any world leader.
Obviously, his ability to articulate, reason, and bond with others has a lot to be desired.
I believe he may have one or two people left in his cabinet that he could deploy if required.

My post really is about the lost opportunity to deal with Putin on equal footing. Carter was not equipped strategically or diplomatically to deal with any Russian leader. Carter was a highly intelligent man, but 98% of highly intelligent men are not equipped to play chess with Russian leaders. Clinton was not. Bush 2 was not. Obama most embarrassingly was not. Russians are a different animal. It takes a man that does not outthink his own position to negotiate with them. It is not about IQ. It is about commitment. They are always committed.

Russia understands the Middle East better than we ever will. They live there. Putin is not a Muslim, Christian, Jew or whatever else. He is brutal. He is well trained. He wants large statues of himself erected and vast sums of money making him the envy of all other world leaders. Mother Russia to Putin is Putin.

But Putin can be flattered. Putin can be bought. Putin can be outspent and driven into the ground. Trump knows that, and Putin knows Trump knows that. Trump sits on Atlantic Ave and Putin sits on Baltic Ave. Vlad just wants his four hotels....or eight hotels. So does Trump.

Sad that Trump cannot speak peace with Russia. No profit from the selling of mass destruction if Trump speaks to Russia.

You are correct, FJ-
I would just hate to see Trump make any attempt at negotiations or peace talks on his own.
Depending on his state of mind at the time, there would be no telling what the outcome would be.

Any dialogue between Trump and Putin would be better than no dialogue. Trump is impulsive and the prototypical alpha. He needs knowledgeable and aggressive advisors that reflect what he wants to accomplish. He becomes frustrated with capitulators....he fires them.

I think Bolton and Pompeo will serve him well, as Mattis and Haley have. We are much better positioned to deal with Putin today than we were three years ago. Obama and his team were spineless and strategically inept.

Trump would have to move upward for me to consider him dogshit on the bottom of my shoe. Oh, I did my duopoly exit more than a decade ago, so just because I think Trump is worse than dogshit doesn't mean I have totally favorable views of Obama, or either Clinton, or Shrub.

On Putin, maybe he can be flattered. Certainly not by Trump. Nor can Trump buy him; his laughable failures at trying to expand his 'presence' in Russia show that. Nor can Putin be driven into the ground that easily. Since the first Western sanctions against him, Russia's actually become MORE nearly self-sufficient on food/ag, among other things.

Putin played Chess for eight years while Obama played dominos. Putin watched a US security leadership of Obama, Powers, Brenan, Clapper, Comey, Carter, Rice, Kerry and laughed. Pick one that is above a C-.

Globalist subterfuge and articulate cowardice makes a lot of Americans feel good, especially when delivered by a sainted POTUS. So here we are. We have lost ground across the globe and been compromised from an intelligence and security prospective by every bad actor in the world.

I'll take the aggressive demagogue every day over the apologetic capitulator.

Socratic Gadfly Added Apr 16, 2018 - 6:04pm
Well, Obama wasn't an "apologetic capitulator." Would be that he had shown sense in Syria even earlier than he did, and that he had applied that same sense before that in Ukraine.
Steve in Texas Added Apr 16, 2018 - 7:18pm
He was. Putin and Xi advanced beyond their wildest hopes. Our CIA, FBI, and NSA were feckless. Pakistan, North Korea, and even private militias advanced against our interests while our divas played politics. John Brennan was without a doubt the weakest key director ever appointed. He was an embarrassment.

The comparisons are often made to chess, but chess assumes an equal start.  I would argue Putin is better at POKER, but Russia's hand is not as strong as America's - America just isn't as good a player.  Trump will continue to have opportunities to work with Putin and it is in Russia's interest - Russia is demonized in America but the potential threat to both is China's growing potential.  For decades I have assumed that someday the Chinese and the Islamic world would have an alliance in WWIII.  Russia would not benefit from a Chinese/Islamic victory.

I see China aligning with Russia as well as Iran.  Despite what our media portrays Iran is a modern country with a middle class and a secular population as well as religious sects.  The morons in the US group them with all of the other religious crazies in the Middle East.

True, just look at the nonsense Jill Stein got for just setting at the same table as Putin. She never talked to him even once but she gets mislabeled a traitor by rat bastard neoliberals even today over nothing.

Steve, it's time for your fact enema.  The US has the highest GDP in the world and one of the highest per capita GDPs in the world. Your country, Russia is in a economic free fall because of Putin and his oligarchs.

Trump talks to Putin. He called him and he congratulated him on his rigged election win. As to Trump being a traitor, Trump and his family are traitors.

I think a colostomy bag is a better fit for you, Bastardo. Try reading through my posts. Did I ever compare Russian GDP to the US? Texas has a comparable economy to the Russians and produces better Vodka. Did the Atlantic vs Baltic Avenue metaphor sail over your head?

Now Trump is in bed with Bezos? Do you know how much money Trump cost Amazon with his last tirade? And have you followed WAPO for the last two years? Just a Trump Lovefest.

As far as warning the Russians ahead of time, that happened through what is called a deconfliction channel. That has been in place before Trump arrived and has been used and acknowledged by France, Britain, and other nations. It is designed to prevent the US and our allies from going to war with Russia over bombing activities aimed at Syria.
